Earl was our cousin long before he was a judge! Earl was always a favorite relative of ours. He was always warm and forthcoming. In spite of his victories on the field and in the court, he was always “just one of the family”!
May his memory be for a blessing

I go back with Earl through Grammar, High School, and College. Whenever, I bumped into him he was always warm and friendly. Loved, when I was before him when he was a Judge and got me out of my ticket!
My condolences to Helen and the Hoffenberg Family. May his memory be for a blessing.

We were friends from grammar school and grew up with all the memories of our Teenage years. Earl was a big part of those memories and good memories they were. He was a genuine and loving person who always had a kind word whenever we saw one another. He will be kissed. My condolences to the whole Hoffenberg Family.

Helen, We send our condolences to you, your children, family and friends. We were shocked to hear of Earl’s passing and want you to know how many friends and neighbors here in Northbrook remember Earl fondly. There are so many times over the years around town or at GBN when our paths crossed. And especially, we remember Judge Hoffenberg marrying Tracy and Charlie. So today we are sending our love and hope you will all have many memories to treasure. And thank you for streaming the service.

From grammar school to high school, Earl was a dear friend and continued to be in touch with us throughout our married life. It was an honor for Jerry to have Earl swear him in his first term as Mayor of Lincolnwood. We are deeply saddened to lose a wonderful, kind, friend that we shared such good times as kids and as adults. May you be dancing on the mountain top.
Blessings to your family and all your many friends that will miss you.

How lucky we were to meet Earl only a few years ago. His reputation preceded him & did not disappoint. What fun we had with this bigger than life personality! When you saw Earl you knew you’d be having a great time. He & Helen have been so close to dear friends of ours. His loss is going to leave such a void. But memories of Earl will fill hearts.

Earl and Helen have a love for each other that will last through eternity. He was my colleague friend and golf partner. He was a guy who you thought would live forever. He was larger than life. He was pure good. When we were together we each felt we were sixteen again. He was a guy who was always a blast to be with. I considered him one of my best friends. I will miss him forever. I love you Earl.

Earl was an Assistant State’s Attorney at the same time as I was, many decades ago, the only time I knew him. His memory still brings a smile to my face. I’m sorry for his family’s great loss.

Having met Earl on an opposing baseball field in high school, I met him again in Law School where we developed a bond that would endure for nearly 55 years. Over the decades our families have been together for every birth, mitzvah, wedding and condolence; we have laughed together, laughed some more, and even cried together at times — from both excessive laughing and a few sad times thrown in. Post Camp will always remain a favorite, where Earl ruled the waterfront and the late-night parties as well. We have been together for so many important occasions — and we will now cherish every casual dinner as one of those important moments we wish we could have back. His special birthday party in Sarasota was another weekend we were so happy to be at, loving the beautiful, unique, and generous spirit that was Earl. We will love him and miss him forever. May his memory be a blessing to his beloved family.

Our families have shared every birth, mitzvah, wedding and condolence throughout the decades while we laughed, and laughed more, and sometimes cried, always there for the important times. I met Earl when we were 9. Since then he was never less than trustworthy, honest, dependable and generous in every way. I know this as his childhood friend, high school club brother, college and post law school roommate, and lifelong friend until he was taken from us. He was such a good man. I will miss him.
